C1 Ionoacoustic detection of laser-driven ion beams
Laser-accelerated ions exhibit unique properties as e.g. a very high peak current and a small emittance which motivate possible new applications in the context of radiotherapy. These properties demand for the development of suitable equipment for beam diagnostics. In project C1, a new approach based on measuring the acoustic signals of particles depositing their energy in water, referred to as Ion-Bunch Energy Acoustic Tracing (I-BEAT), is developed.
