C5 Monte Carlo based dosimetry for radionuclide therapy
Over the past few years, radionuclide therapies have evolved significantly to specifically target tumor cells. A simultaneous, image-based dosimetry is required to maximize therapy outcome for the individual patient. Different dosimetry approaches, including Monte Carlo based dose simulations, for internal radionuclide therapy have been defined. However, up to now no standard methodology for either Yttrium-90 selective internal radiation therapy of liver tumors or Lutetium-177-PSMA therapy of prostate cancer is available. The aim of this project is thus to investigate and compare different image-based dosimetry workflows. Hereby it is important to consider the quality and quantification capability of the activity image serving as input for all subsequent absorbed dose estimations. An example of the impact of different image modalities and image reconstruction parameters is given in the accompanying figure.
